19764 PA Family business winners-2016-health and welfare (1)Anderson Maguire Funeral Directors have won the award for Health and Welfare in the prestigious FBU Awards 2016.  The event in London was attended by over 146 of the UK’s family business luminaries and showcased the wealth of talent within the UK’s family business community.

Dom Maguire, Chairman of Anderson Maguire Funeral Directors, said:

“We have been the recipients of a number of awards in recent months which is testament to our commitment to the family business sector and we are delighted that the standards we set have been recognised with this award from FBU.

“I started the business in 1982 and my guiding principal has always been to provide a service to our clients which we would hope to receive ourselves in our time of need.  My own family has been an integral part of the development of the company and many people who work for us are mothers and sons, brothers and sisters, cousins etc so the notion of family and what it means has always been critical to our success.

“We remain a steadfastly independent family business in Scotland and by moving with the times and making intelligent business decisions, we plan to continue to grow as one of Scotland’s leading family businesses.”

As Paul Andrews, Founder and Managing Director of Family Business United (‘FBU’) explains:

“We were delighted to pull together such a vibrant bunch of family businesses for the 2016 awards, some that have succeeded for numerous generations and continue to thrive, and others that are relatively young but have great values at the heart of what they do.

“Anderson Maguire were worthy winners of the Health & Welfare Award and the judges were impressed with the longevity of the family firm and the innovation and evolution of the business since it was founded.

“Strong values are evident throughout the business and given the nature of what they do it is not a surprise that family values are at the heart of what they do.  Governance and succession have also been addressed and the appointment of a non-family MD shows the desire of the family to ensure that the business has the right people in place to drive the next phase of their journey.”

“Anderson Maguire are a great Scottish family business and deserve all the plaudits that winning this award brings.”
